New Manager 101

One obstacle most companies confront at some point is promoting a high performing employee to management because they exceeded expectations in their previous job. Excelling in an earlier role does not guarantee success at the next level. Unfortunately far to often, people are promoted and left to find their way to discover the nuances of a new position on their own. Fostering skills to direct, supervise or influence others is essential to the overall success of both the new manager and the company as a whole. New managers need new skills, new goals, and above all a new perspective. New Manager 101 takes them through the fundamental skill sets expected to be an enthusiastic and capable team leader. Skill development is essential for any new manager. We also believe that the development of social awareness for a new manager can be complicated for a new manager to navigate. We take the time to have these discussions and provide proven methods for managing friends, delegating and the essentials of holding others accountable.

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity is about empowering people by respecting and appreciating what makes them different, regarding age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, and national origin.

Inclusion is a company’s efforts and practices in which different groups or individuals having dissimilar backgrounds are culturally and socially accepted, welcomed, and treated equally.

Couple all this with millennials creating their definition, and you can see where policy and procedure collide. Millennials view diversity as the thoughtful blending of different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives within a team.

In this interactive presentation, we discuss unconscious bias and conscious inclusion.  We look at stereotyping and the negative impacts that it can have on a companies culture.  We also look into what the correct definition of privilege. This presentation isn't always comfortable, but it is worth it!

Unconscious Bias

Our newest and most timely workshop to date. The response to the issues surrounding unconscious bias has been nothing short of an eye-opening wake-up call for all businesses.  No longer a "nice to have" training, this is a "must have" discipline of current business climate.  Your business can't afford to be the next Starbuck's.  Because of a lack of training and clarity they were forced to close all of their stores for a half day to discuss a racially biased event in one of their locations.  They were in the news, all over social media and not in favorable portrayal.  Society demands that your employees be sensitive and aware of cultural sensitivity.

Be ahead of the curve.  Engage your team now before something terrible happens. Train your team before it is too late.

In my conversations with business leaders, I have heard all the excuses.

"This is a difficult conversation.  It's more comfortable not to have it."

"We are afraid of what our employees might say."

"It's a very uncomfortable conversation to have."

"Nothing like that will happen here."

Sound familiar? It does not have to.

The McNevin Agency is here to facilitate this delicate topic, and we will lead the robust and consequential conversations that will enlighten your team on the nuances of such an important subject.  Do it afraid. Be an ally for equality. It's time for your organization to step up and be out ahead of the game.
